092: My Morning with Murray - Part Two

After a short break in our convesation which gave us time to take a comfort break and refresh our drinks, Murray Hatfield and I returned to the Golden T.M.W. Microphone to resume our discussion. The bulk of this second and final part of our chat focused on the current state of the brick-and-mortar magic shop business and it's future.

Seven years ago Murray purchased the magic shop from Tony Eng in Vancouver, British Columbia. He changed its name from Tony's Trick and Joke Shop to (guess what?) Murray's Trick and Joke Shop. It is strategically located in a high traffic, tourist area of Vancouver; however, with the advent of more people finding magic on the internet, he may soon have to close its doors. He has some definite opinions on what's going on with all brick-and-mortar shops regardless of whether they are located in the U.S. or Canada or any other country.

091: My Morning with Murray - Part One

When Murray Hatfield visited Houston during his lecture tour across the U.S., I was honored to have him as a guest in my home. Following his lecture we returned to my house to continue in more detail some of the interesting topics he discussed during the course of his lecture. We spoke well into the wee hours of the morning as we talked about his life of being a touring magician and the evolution of the "phone room" business and brick-and-mortar magic shops among so many other topics. By the way, be sure to congratulate him on the upcoming birth of his first child. We can only guess what his name will be even though there is a suggested moniker as the boy's nickname in this podcast.

Murray is not one to hold back any punches or secrets. In fact, he proclaims that he suffers from "T.M.E." (Too Much Explanation) which is why his lectures usually go on for some time (reminiscent to me of Harry Lorayne). I had intended for this podcast to last about one hour but when it was all said and done (literally), I decided to break it up into two parts. It's easier to eat an elephant one bite at a time.

So with that brief introduction, I present to you Part One of My (Early) Morning with Murray.

088: An Hour with Paul Draper

Paul Draper is a deep thinker and a pleasant performer. He was an Anthropology Professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas so he knows how to teach. And he knows how to talk. Aside from having a grand, baritone voice that's perfect for radio and stage, he has a depth of wisdom and knowledge that he speaks from when he talks. During his stay in Houston, he had a lot to say and he said it all in this one hour chat that  covered the gamut from mentalism to the Magic Castle plus marketing tips and advice for the  young, aspiring magicians and mentalists. I know you will enjoy and learn from this  podcast.
